President's column
Dear Fellow Probus Members,
Our big
event is nearing: the Friendship Dinner,Thursday, May 1 at Temple
Emanuel. City Manager Michael O'Brien will be the guest of honor and
will address us all about what is happening in our great city. Yes, I
will repeat that, Great City!
In addition, we are instituting a new and exciting event. Some of our
long term members may recall our Probus Auctions of the past which
included a big dinner at a local country club. We are going to have a
Probus Breakfast event to be held in June which will include a great
speaker and some other surprises, yet to be thought of, but we'll think
of something fun to do. Tentatively, we are thinking of doing this at
Mt. Wachusett, so let your imagination run wild on the possibilities!
On the long term horizon, we are working on the Educator of the Year
Award in conjunction with the Worcester Public Schools for next year.
It is our belief that this can be a major fundraiser. It is working in
Connecticut, and we all know that Massachusetts has Connecticut beat
any day of the week (just don't tell them that, we need their input).
We are going to
recognize a member at each dinner meeting in terms of his
business. There are many success stories in our club and there is much
we can learn from each other. For example, did you know that Lenny
Israel is one of Worcester's most successful businessmen? We all know
how generous Lenny is and it is no surprise that he has much to share
about his business ideas as well. Hopefully Lenny will agree to share
some of his secrets at a future meeting when he is back from Florida!
Until we meet again,
Mike Whitman, Probus President, (send me an email)
